Hi! My name is Cody Bishop, I'm the owner of 181 Fitness and have been a personal trainer for since 2007. It might surprise you to know that I didn't always want to be involved in the fitness field, in fact I thought it sounded like a pretty terrible profession for a long time. I wanted to be a psychologist since I was 10 years old and went as far as almost finishing my PhD in clinical psychology and earning a Masters along the way. Somewhere along the way I took a job as a personal trainer so I could keep my gym membership (remember, college students are broke) and totally fell in love. I realized that my mission to help 100,000 people who suffer from body image issues find freedom and lasting change was better accomplished in the fitness field. So I took a deep breath and made the decision to leave my PhD program 1 internship and my dissertation defense shy of graduating with my PhD. I personally have felt the pain, and in some instances continue to feel the pain, of constantly being at war with my body. My mission to help 100,000 people change their perspectives on exercise and dieting so that those people can finally have the results they want and the life they deserve, and so future generations won't let how they look interfere with their ability to enjoy life.

The informal stuff:
  • I really like: Bacon, pizza, and lasagna
  • I really don’t like: Whales. “They’re just too freakin' big!”
  • First thing I hoped to be when I grew up: A comic book illustrator
  • Favorite corny joke:  What did sushi A say to sushi B? Wasabi
Boring stuff:
  • Masters in Psychology, Doctoral candidate – Clinical Psychology
  • Certified Personal Trainer (NASM)
  • 4 years amateur MMA/Boxing competitor
  • FMS level 1 and 2
  • TRX certified

I put my first set of gloves on around the age of 5 and, if it were up to me, I wouldn't have ever taken them off. I've been around the sport for over 2 1/2 decades now and still love it. Being a former paramedic I always saw clients after already being hurt or sick and I thought to myself, "Why not help people before they need a paramedic?". So I switched professions and have been helping people get and stay healthy ever since.
    • I really like: Spearfishing
    • I really don't like: Excuses
    • First thing I wanted to be when I grew up: a wildlife photographer/videographer
    • Corny joke: Why did Mozart kill his chicken? Because it kept saying "Bach, Bach, Bach
    Boring stuff:
